The Croatian Metrology Society - HMD is a non-governmental, non-profit association founded to accomplish goals and tasks laid down by its Statute and the Law on Associations. Since its foundation thirty years ago (in 1978), the HMD has been joined by three hundred natural persons and about fifty legal entities interested in metrology and similar activities that are linked to metrology, for example: standardization, accreditation, technical regulation and others.

The International Vocabulary of Basic and General Terms in Metrology - VIM states that “metrology is field of knowledge concerned with measurement and that it includes all theoretical and practical aspects of measurement, whichever the measurement uncertainty and field of application”.

The membership of HMD is the best indicator of the diversity that exists in the application of metrology. Our members come from various calibration, verification, testing and analytical laboratories, but also from universities, institutes, commerce etc.

The Croatian Metrology Society is member of the following associations and unions:

  • HIS - Croatian Engineering Association that gathers about 10 000 engineers and technicians of all professions
  • ILAC - International Laboratory Accreditation Co-operation; interest member
  • NCSL - National Conference of Standard Laboratories International
